A well-designed front entrance needs to do more than look attractive. It must provide security, allow vehicles to enter and park comfortably, complement the property and create a welcoming first impression.
For this project, the Eden Landscaping team redesigned the complete entrance by combining driveway improvements, new fencing, practical electric-gate access and carefully selected planting.
Redesigning the driveway entrance
The original fence ran directly alongside the public pathway, making the entrance feel enclosed and leaving no room for planting.
We removed the existing fence and repositioned the new fencing farther back from the pathway. This created generous planting beds without reducing the security or privacy of the property.
The new layout gives the entrance a softer and more attractive appearance while maintaining a strong boundary between the garden, driveway and pathway.
Improving access through the electric gates
The corners of the new fence line were angled back to create additional turning and parking space when the electric gates are open.
This was an important practical part of the design. It allows vehicles to enter and leave the property more comfortably while providing additional space for parking inside the entrance.
When planning a new driveway or electric-gate entrance, the position of the fencing, gate opening and vehicle turning area must all be considered together. Small adjustments to the layout can make a major difference to how easily the entrance works every day.
New driveway finish and defined planting beds
The driveway was finished with a clean, dark surface that provides a strong contrast against the light-coloured fencing and fresh green planting.
A neat edging detail separates the driveway from the new beds. This helps retain the soil and mulch, protects the planting and gives the complete entrance a crisp, professionally finished appearance.
The result is a practical, low-maintenance driveway that works naturally with the surrounding landscape.
White Annabelle hydrangeas and box hedging
White Annabelle hydrangeas were planted along the newly created beds. Their large white flowers brighten the entrance and soften the appearance of the fencing during the flowering season.
The hydrangeas were framed with structured evergreen box hedging. The low box border creates a clean line around the beds and provides year-round shape and greenery, even when the hydrangeas are not in flower.
Combining formal box hedging with softer flowering plants gives the entrance a balanced look. The box provides structure, while the hydrangeas add seasonal colour, texture and movement.
Retaining the established tree
There was already a beautiful established tree on the right-hand side of the entrance. Rather than removing it, we incorporated it into the new design.
Retaining healthy, established trees can give a newly landscaped area immediate maturity. The new fencing, box hedging and Annabelle hydrangeas were carefully arranged around the existing tree so that it remained an important feature of the entrance.
Adding a lime-green Acer
The opposite side of the entrance did not have a feature tree, so we planted a lime-green Acer to balance the design.
The Acer provides fresh foliage, height and seasonal interest without overwhelming the planting bed. As it matures, it will form an attractive focal point alongside the white hydrangeas and evergreen box hedging.
Using a feature tree on each side creates a more balanced appearance while still allowing both areas to develop their own character.
A secure entrance with a softer appearance
This project shows that security fencing does not have to make a home feel closed off or uninviting.
By stepping the fence back, angling the corners and introducing structured planting, we created an entrance that offers:
